At our school Art & Design provides opportunities for creativity, self-expression and communication of ideas and feelings, alongside the development of appreciation and evaluative skills. A range of important thinking skills are used to facilitate this process; these include sensitivity, perception, imagination, conceptual thinking, observation, and analytical and practical capabilities.
The history of Art and Design extends understanding of visual language and widens cultural horizons and aesthetic appreciation. During their primary years here at Four Oaks the pupils have the chance to study works of Art from many different genres and cultures within our Four Oaks Curriculum topics. Each project is linked to an artist or genre of Art, and children are encouraged to research and explore these areas both in school and at home.
The pupils are taught the six main disciplines of Art & Design: drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, textiles and collage. They gain a variety of different skills using a variety of mediums such as: graded pencils, paint, soft pastels, malleable materials etc. Using these materials, they are taught to apply these skills in their work as well as look for them in works of Art such as: pattern, line, tone, colour theory, form, texture, shape etc. They are also taught how these skills can convey meaning.
You will be able to see the children’s successes on the display boards around school.
