The children came to school in full 'Day of the Dead' costume to learn more about the Mayan culture along with the great festival.
They looked at the country's traditions, festivals and famous landmarks, linked to the Mayans.
The children had a topic area to research for the Mayans they had not yet covered and they created their own set of questions. These were then used these as part of a class quiz.
The children then had to choose a Mayan artefact to recreate: A Mayan calendar, head-dress, codices, or a Mayan pyramid.
They were very lucky to have a full Mexican experience for lunch also - tortillas, fajitas, enchiladas etc .
After After lunch the children looked at 'Day of the Dead' and learnt about this fascinating festival. They looked at videos and learnt about the traditions. The children then created some art/craft relating to it: Day of the Dead masks, skull paper models and papel picado bunting.
It really was a wonderful day full of Geography, History, Art and craft and PSHE.
