At Four Oaks Primary School we strongly believe in every child receiving the best start in life to ensure they reach their full potential and develop a life-long love of learning. Through devising a carefully planned out curriculum; engaging and involving parents in learning; looking closely at each individual child’s skill progression and knowledge acquisition; and being flexible in our teaching approach, we believe we give every single child an excellent foundation to build from when they enter the National Curriculum.
Our curriculum has been broadly devised around 6 key enquiry questions which all children can work from to follow their interests. These are:
- What makes me unique?
- Who is special to us and how do we celebrate special occasions?
- What makes our world magical?
- Who has shared our planet with us?
- Do all fairy tale characters live “happily ever after”?
- Where will my dreams take me?
Our classroom spaces are devised to ensure the children have access to continual provision at all times so skills can be developed and consolidated. Children engage in rotation between our three indoor spaces and outdoor space where they develop the independence of choice across all areas of learning, thus strengthening their characteristics of effective learning. There is a huge focus on the development of language and acquisition of new vocabulary, which is supported throughout all aspects of the day and through homework tasks.
A wide range of activities are planned throughout the year to ensure there is an ethos of investing in cultural capital, and equality in experience for all. Reception is a really fun place to be!
