The Music curriculum at Four Oaks Primary school aims to foster a life-long love of Music in all its forms. Our music lessons are based on the Charanga scheme of learning although this is adapted at times to make closer links with our topics. During these lessons, children will learn to perform using their voices, and tuned and untuned instruments. They will learn to improvise and compose music for a range of purposes, and they will use and understand the stave and other musical notations. Children are also taught to appreciate and understand a wide range of high-quality live and recorded music drawn from different traditions and from great composers and musicians.
Throughout their time at Four Oaks, children will also get the opportunity to take part in whole-school singing assemblies, events and productions in school and within the community. This allows them to showcase the skills they have learnt and helps foster confidence and enjoyment in their performances. Pupils will also have the opportunity to take part in peripatetic music lessons.
We want to ensure that children develop a love of various types of Music, understand the value and importance of Music in the wider community, and are able to use their musical skills, knowledge, and experiences to involve themselves in Music in a variety of different contexts.
