At Four Oaks we aim to provide a high-quality Science education which provides the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
We aim to ensure that children develop an understanding of the nature, processes and methods of Science through different types of Science enquiry that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them. They are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of Science in the past, present and future.
We aim for children to develop a secure understanding of each block of knowledge/concepts and make use of technical terminology accurately and precisely. Biology covers things which can be classified according to observable features; habitats that provide living things with what they need and the human body. Chemistry covers the physical properties of materials and their different states and Physics covers forces, the Earth in space, light and sound, and electricity.
Children work scientifically to understand the nature, processes and methods of Science embedded within the content of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. They use a variety of approaches to answer relevant scientific questions through a range of types of scientific enquiry. These include observing over time; pattern seeking; identifying; classifying and grouping; comparative and fair testing, and researching using secondary sources. They seek answers to questions through collecting, analysing and presenting data.
