IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL PARENTS - HEAD BUMPS

14 November 2025 (by admin)

We are changing our system for how we inform you about head bumps. Please read the below carefully so you know what to expect from Monday 17th November onwards.

If a child has a serious head bump where they have any cut or graze to their face, any bleeding, or any lump, then a phone call WILL be made and an ice pack will be applied at school. A medical slip will also be completed by the person who has dealt with the injury, so the slip is factually correct, and this will be sent home with your child.  If we think it is such a serious incident that you may want to come and comfort your child, or they need to go to hospital this will be stated to you on the telephone call. A bright yellow wristband stating “Bumped Head” will be applied if the child is remaining in school so school staff are all aware and can stay vigilant to continually assess your child’s medical needs.  But if your child is collected by you then you will be handed their medical slip detailing the incident and treatment, so a wristband won't need to be applied.

If a child has just tapped into someone or something light hit their head, and appear perfectly fine once a first aider has checked them over, then school will apply a bright yellow wrist band, and complete a first aid slip stating it was deemed that it was not necessary to call a parent.  School staff will keep a close eye on your child whilst they remain in our care. Please check to see if your child has a medical slip in their bag and are wearing a yellow wrist band so you can continue the observations on their health, ensuring there are no signs of concussion. Please remove this wrist band nightly and inform your child they are not allowed to remove the wristband themselves.

We hope this will stop unnecessary phone calls being made, disturbing your working day, whilst also keeping the children in our care safe.
